How to apply for exemption

To apply for exemption against either Unit of the IMC, applicants will need to:
  1. Register for the IMC examination they are required to sit, for example Unit 2 if the exemption is against Unit 1. The online registration form allows candidates to select one examination only.
  2. Note down their IMC candidate number, which will begin SIP99...
  3. Use this to complete the Exemption Request Form (downloadable below).
  4. Submit this to the Society via email (info@cfauk.org), fax (020 7796 3333) or mail (CFA Society of the UK, 90 Basinghall Street, London EC2V 5AY)
In addition to this, candidates applying for an exemption against Unit 1 will also need to include:

Please note that original copies of certificates will not be accepted, and the Society will not be held responsible for the loss of posted documentation. If you are not currently employed, please email Peter Watkins, Director of Education.

Exemption requests cannot be fully processed unless you have registered for the IMC exam you need to take. Please ensure you have registered for this exam before submitting your application.

The Society can accept payments made by Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and Switch, or cheques made payable to 'CFA Society to the UK'. No invoices can be raised for exemption fees.
