Fellowship (FSIP)
Fellowship
There are at
present two categories of Fellows:
- Those elected by the Board on the advice of the Fellowship Committee (on the basis of their exceptional service to the society and/or to the
investment profession), and
- Those who attained fellowship status
through examination or a thesis.
The second category was closed to new members after the
merger with CFA Institute in 2000. There are 70 Fellows. The most recent elections
took place in 2007.
Benefits of Fellowship
Much of the benefit of Fellowship is intangible - the status it confers and lifelong recognition for the contribution made to the society and/or the profession.
Below is a list of specific benefits:
- Use of the elite FSIP designation
- Coverage of election in
Professional
Investor and on the society's site
- Invitation to the bi-ennial Fellows
lunch and to the Annual Dinner
- Access to all society events at no charge
- Recognition on the society's site
Obligations
There are no
explicit obligations attached to the acceptance of a Fellowship. It is expected that a Fellow
will support the aims and objectives of the society. The society's
mission is:
"To lead the
development of the investment profession through the promotion of the highest
ethical standards and through the provision of education, professional
development, advocacy, information and career support on behalf of its
members."
At a more
practical level, the society hopes that Fellows will provide advice (for instance, concerning advocacy
issues or suitable speakers for an event) and might speak at society events.
In short, we hope
to be able to continue to draw on the Fellows' expertise for the benefit of the
society and our members and, in return to provide Fellows with access to events and to recognise the distinguished contributions that
they have made to the society and/or to the profession .
