Scottish Annual Dinner 2008

The annual dinner in Edinburgh was once again a roaring success.

Both of the speakers were a hit with the audience. Douglas Anderson told tales of great success in the face of adversary - from conquering mountains to building life changing machinery in his multi-million pound company Optos. Kevin Hart, while telling humorous tales best not repeated here, was bullish for the future of the oil industry, adding the 0 mark is not unrealisitic in the not so distant future.

The society would like to thank Artemis for their help with this event. Special thanks to Lindsay Whitelaw for Artemis's continuing support of this event over the past few years.

Spring Reception - 2008

This year's Spring Reception for CFA UK members was extremely well attended.

The Royal Exchange in the City of London provided a scenic backdrop for this year’s event. Many of the attendees found the reception to be a good opportunity to meet with peers and to meet new contacts. The evening included free drinks for all members who attended and canapés throughout the evening.

If you miss out on this year Spring Reception, then don’t miss the Summer Reception being held on 18th June 2008.

More than 400 guests recently attended the society’s annual dinner at The Dorchester. The late September dinner, which was kindly sponsored once again by Payden & Rygel (one of the world’s largest, privately-owned investment managers), raised £5500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity through its prize raffle. The raffle was drawn by Irish comedian Dara O’Briain. O’Briain, host of Mock of the Week and Have I Got News for You, provided an excellent after-dinner speech and dealt with the surprising

number of hecklers with great aplomb – and a coruscating cascade of expletives.
