The CFA UK Ethics Steering committee is proud to present their latest Ethics Book club, an event series where they invite CFA UK members to discuss books that raise interesting and important questions on good ethical practice within the investment profession. The latest book in the series is Built on a Lie: The Rise and Fall of Neil Woodford and the Fate of Middle England’s Money by Owen Walker.

Written by the Financial Times journalist who first broke the story, Built on A Lie chronicles the greed and opulence at the heart of Neil Woodford’s operation and the failings that led to one of the biggest financial scandals of the last decade. Further, Owen Walker is able to place these events within the context of an industry that all too frequently treats its star performers as infallible and where key issues can be overlooked by regulators.

The Ethics steering committee look forward to discussing the book with CFA UK members. Through discussion, considerations can be made not just on the failures catalogued in relation to this scandal, but also what these events mean for the future of the industry.
