Using NLP and conference call transcripts to generate investment insights

Tuesday 14 June 2022 | 17:00 - 18:00 | Webinar

This session has been organised by CFA UK's Data Science working group

Natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) has dramatically changed the landscape of the investments industry over the last decade.

NLP allows investors to obtain actionable insights from unstructured data such as conference call transcripts, news, social media; among others.

In this webinar, Christopher Kantos from Alexandria Technologies will provide in-depth insights about NLP applications, particularly the application of ML techniques to earnings calls transcripts and the generation of investment signals and other information that can be used by quantitative and fundamental investors.

Key learning outcomes from this session:

  • Understand the main text applications of NLP and ML for investment purposes.
  • Comparison of popular NLP approaches such as FinBERT, Loughran McDonald (LM), and Alexandria Technology.
  • Using NLP insights to enhance an investment process.

Where recordings are made, these are a member benefit that are accessed through the member-only platform, CFA UK Discover.
