Wednesday webinar at one: Making numbers talk

Wednesday 22 June 2022 | 13:00 - 13:40 | Webinar

Financial analysts often feel more comfortable with numbers than with words. But even the most quantitative roles require effective language skills.

In this webinar Philip Collins, former Chief Speechwriter to Tony Blair and also a former fund manager, introduces concepts that can make words as impressive as numbers. He outlines the timeless principles of rhetoric, formulated by Aristotle and Cicero and exemplified by orators such as Martin Luther King.

Philip also draws on recent research in neuroscience and psychology and explains how great investors are also great leaders and communicators, such as Warren Buffett, Larry Fink and Ray Dalio.

Key learning outcomes:

  • How to convey complex financial ideas in clear language
  • How to argue the case for an investment proposition
  • When to use charts and tables, and when not to

Where recordings are made, these are a member benefit that are accessed through the member-only platform, CFA UK Discover.
