CFA UK Journalism Awards 2022 winners announced

The CFA Society of the UK (CFA UK) is delighted to announce the winners of its 2022 Journalism Awards.

The CFA Society of the UK (CFA UK) is delighted to announce the winners of its 2022 Journalism Awards.

 

The Awards highlight contributions to the advancement of investor education through journalism. Now in its tenth year, the Journalism Awards celebrate articles that highlighted ethical and professional standards in the UK investment sector.

 

Sophie Baker of Pensions & Investments won CFA UK Trade Journalist of the Year for her article Debate over changes to listing rules roils UK. Judge Jane Fuller, FSIP says ‘The debate, in the wake of the Hill review, over whether UK listing rules should be relaxed to attract companies to the London market was both fierce and principled. Sophie Baker’s article stood out for its clarity and balance on this highly relevant subject.’

 

Elaine Moore of Financial Times won CFA UK National Journalist of the Year for her report Does Uber deserve its $91bn valuation? where she debates Uber’s business model, its controversies and the potential of Uber finally managing to balance their books.   

 

Laurence Fletcher and Tommy Stubbington, of Financial Times won the category ESG, Climate and Sustainable Investing for their article ESG Investing - funds weight sovereign debt profits against human rights. The article poses the dilemma for ESG investing in relation to countries with dubious human rights records and interrogates the weigh up between yield and upholding ESG standards.

 

Paul Clarke, of Financial News won the category Inclusion & Diversity for his article How Black Lives Matter shone a new light on inequality in the City. Paul uses data analysis to highlight racial inequality in the city and interviews industry leaders to understand how they are tackling this disparity.

 

The awards were determined by reviews of multiple, anonymised submissions from leading national and investment publications. The CFA UK Journalism Awards judging panel consisted of volunteers from the CFA UK membership.

The winners of this year’s Journalism Awards were announced at CFA UK’s Summer Reception on 29 June 2022.
