Making volunteering more rewarding

Here’s the latest update from your Volunteer Steering Committee on what they’ve been doing to make volunteering better for you

Dear All,

As part of our ongoing commitment to turn survey feedback into concrete action, I wanted to update you on our progress at just past the halfway mark. The annual survey delivered some excellent feedback as to what you like about the volunteer experience, your frustrations and your drivers. As a group, the Volunteer Steering Committee (VSC), in association with the staffed office, reviewed this and came up with some 20 action points that would help us more closely align our efforts with your wants and needs. I am delighted to report that we have been working through those action points and have implemented some important changes, some of which you will have already seen go live. Most notable are:

  • CFA UK Board has ratified the VSCs constitutional documents which will be acting as a blueprint for all Committee structures, increasing transparency and consistency across the organisation.
  • CFA UK Board has ratified the VSCs constitutional documents which will be acting as a blueprint for all Committee structures, increasing transparency and consistency across the organisation.
  • A VSC member will attend events where appropriate to gauge ongoing volunteer and member feedback in addition to conducting rolling feedback sessions with volunteers looking for ideas for improvements all leading to a pre-survey session in October to seek input and decide on questions for the volunteer survey.
  • CFA UK has implemented a professional training framework exclusively for volunteers with the backing of the Board. 25 volunteers have been trained to date and more training will be scheduled throughout the membership year.
  • Meetings between Steering Committee Chairs and Vice-Chairs have been scheduled that are designed to act as social, feedback sessions and aid consistent best practice. The first meeting has already occurred.
  • Delivery of a new platform (CFA UK Connect) designed to increase the visibility of networking opportunities and to ensure that the volunteer structure is easily accessible to all, giving a bird’s eye view of current opportunities available.
  • 1-7 June 2019 marked the national celebration of Volunteers Week and CFA UK took the opportunity to raise the profile of volunteers through the first Impact Report, a new annual Volunteers Week lunch and a social campaign across the week

We will be back in touch with a year-end round-up for the changes implemented ahead of the next survey where we look forward once again to hearing your views.
