In an industry where achievements are often intangible and the benefits of what we are doing is not immediately obvious to our clients, it's important that we take the time to explain clearly and simply how we are serving them.
That’s not to say that there isn’t responsibility on clients or the wider public to understand what we are doing, which is why our group has focused on educating those in society at large about the basics of finance. Importantly, if we give the tools to clients to understand and question what is being done on their behalf, they also can take ownership of this process. In the end, any profession should be about a partnership between professionals and their clients.
We can help bolster this partnership by both making sure our communications are clear, and that we are doing all we can to ensure clients have the financial literacy to understand the issues that we talk about.
