Energy Finance Special Interest Group
I am delighted to let you know that we are forming a new CFA UK Energy Finance Special Interest Group (SIG). My vision for the Energy Finance SIG is that it will provide insights and perspectives on the trends, opportunities and challenges faced by the energy industry as well as develop member’s knowledge, expertise and engagement with other finance professionals in the industry.
Transitioning to a lower carbon future is driving the energy industry to embrace major transformation due to the development of new technologies, regulation and the increasing shift towards affordable clean energy and sustainability.
This new SIG will initially focus on:
- Debate relevant topics such as M&A trends, growth of green financing and renewable energy, project finance, Oil & Gas and Power Infrastructure investments (e.g. for Battery Storage), managing a portfolio of energy assets etc.
- Discuss the growing focus of investors on environmental metrics (CO2 emissions, climate change, waste management, etc.) and the right approach to integrate these factors in the investment analysis
- Analyse the Government’s energy strategy, international context, regulatory changes (regarding electric cars, climate change, CO2 emissions reporting, fracking, etc.)
As a CFA UK member, I have spent most of my career in finance focused on the energy sector. I have worked for top multinational companies and management consulting firms. I find the energy industry extremely interesting and diverse, always changing, evolving and adapting. It is a truly global industry with a huge economic and political influence.
Last year I started looking at CFA Institute research on the Energy field and CFA Societies that offer specific forums or events focused on energy. Knowing there are many finance professionals in London that focus on energy, either from the corporate perspective or from the investment perspective, I thought that having a forum dedicated to energy finance professionals will add value to our CFA UK members.
We are looking for a small number of volunteers to join me in running the new Energy Finance SIG. The selected volunteers will have energy background, a strong interest in the industry and availability to commit and make the new group a success. They will also be part of the leadership team. If you are interested in this opportunity, apply here.
